Why did you choose a degree apprenticeship?

At the time of making the decision to opt for a degree apprenticeship, I felt as though the experience I would gain with being within the industry throughout my undergraduate course would be invaluable.

Looking back over your time on the apprenticeship so far, how have you found the whole experience?

The experience has been challenging but very rewarding. As site progresses, I can see the direct impact I have made to the project.

How are you hoping a degree apprenticeship will support your career progression?

To come out of university with five years industry experience was a main selling point for doing a degree apprenticeship as it can only fast track any career progression post university. I also believe that a level of respect is developed amongst my peers as they can see I am having to manage my time appropriately between work and university.

How would you describe the support that you’ve received from the University of Salford?

The support from the University of Salford has been very useful. I find the Link Tutor meetings on a quarterly basis to be beneficial as I can discuss any problems I am dealing with in a closed forum along with setting relevant goals for the coming months.

Do you have any advice for future degree apprentices?

The advice I would give to future degree apprentices is the more you get involved with the team/project and want to learn, the more you will get out of your experience. It can be challenging at the start as a new person in the workplace but if you show an interest and high level of effort then respect will follow along with responsibility.

Would you recommend a degree apprenticeship?

Absolutely! It has been a great experience and one I would not have wanted to miss out on.
