Research Excellence

Map of the world

Our high-quality research is delivering a lasting economic and social benefit to drive us towards a more prosperous world. Our researchers are achieving this through collaborations with SMEs to foster innovation, partnerships with large businesses for impactful research, and working closely with charities and policy makers to influence positive change.

Our research excellence is firmly rooted in experience. Over the last six decades our researchers have regularly delivered insights which has made the world a better place. This has been reflected in our performance in exercises such as the Research Excellence Framework.

We have a strong track record in translating our research findings into positive changes in society and the economy. This experience is demonstrated by our performance in exercises such as the Knowledge Exchange Framework, as well as in how we work with partners.

Much like our collaborative approach to working with business, our approach to public and community engagement involves working with local, regional and national partners to create extraordinary experiences. We combine our expertise and passion with our physical and digital spaces to co-create unique and inspirational events that resonate, inform and entertain.

Highlights from the latest Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF3) include:

1.

Continued very high engagement across IP and Commercialisation, including performance and investment across our formal spin-outs.

2.

Maintaining very high engagement in how we work with business, in particular our contract research income with SMEs and through KTPs and grants.

3.

Demonstrating high engagement with respect to activities including CPD and graduate start-ups, public and community engagement and research partnerships.
