Travelling to MediaCity
Whether you choose to travel to our campus at MediaCity by tram, bus, bike, car, or plane, there are many travel routes for you to explore before you set off on your journey.
The MediaCity campus is at the heart of Salford Quays and home to the UK’s media and digital industries. Regular buses and a direct tram service connect the campus to other parts of Greater Manchester, whilst colleagues and students are also able to travel to our Peel Park and Frederick Road campuses on the number 50 bus for free when showing your ID card.

Getting here by Bus
The number 50 bus, operated by Stagecoach, runs every 10-15 minutes from Manchester City Centre. The bus travels past the university’s main Peel Park campus, as well as Salford Shopping Centre, and then on to MediaCity: its final destination.
The bus operates between 07:00 and 23:00 Monday-Friday, and between 08:00 and 18:00 at the weekend.
Staff and students can travel for free between the main university campus and MediaCity on the production of their university ID cards.
The X50 runs every 15 minutes from Manchester city centre to the Trafford Centre via Salford Quays. MediaCity is just a few minutes’ walk from the Imperial War Museum stop on Trafford Wharf Road, via the footbridge over the Manchester Ship Canal.
Getting here by Bike
If you’re planning to travel to campus by bike, there are over 400 spaces across our campuses where you can store this. The majority of these spaces are contained within secure shelters which can be accessed using your student or staff ID card. Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) have also developed a Cycle Hub at MediaCity which offers membership-based smart card access and can accommodate up to 300 bicycles.
Getting here by Car
For those who need to travel by car, the link road with the M602 motorway gives drivers the option to approach MediaCity from either end of the Broadway. The M602 provides onward linkages to major routes leading in all directions.
Parking at this site is limited, but if you do decide to drive, take a look at the MediaCity parking guide for more information.
Getting here by Air
Manchester Airport is just a 20-minute drive from MediaCity.
You can also catch a train from the airport to Manchester Piccadilly station, followed by a tram to MediaCity if you prefer (see above information).
Travel sustainably
At Salford, we encourage colleagues, students and visitors to travel as sustainably as possible.
