Here at Team Salford, we are always learning. We never stop! We are curious and take on new experiences in order to be better. By joining our team, you will be supported to develop individually and professionally to be at your best. There are many ways in which we do this and here are just a few…
Work autonomously
We recognise that everyone works differently. We will give you the freedom to shape your work and your environment to allow you to perform at your best. We are clear about roles and expectations but are flexible about how you achieve your goals. With the support of your manager and colleagues, you can decide what development and support you need to succeed in your role, taking ownership of your learning and development. There are many opportunities to engage, share and access a range of services to help you achieve this.
Access resources
In today’s evolving, fast changing and digitally focused world, we need to be agile and adaptable to pick up new skills and stay relevant. We encourage our colleagues to feed their curiosity and explore their development in a variety of ways from more traditional classroom offerings to on demand online learning across a wide range of topics. There are a number of resources available for you to access to include LinkedIn Learning and extensive library services. You may also have access to various subscriptions and online training programmes to ensure you’re up to date.
Develop
Whatever your role, you will have access to relevant training and support. This may include the opportunity to sign up for specialist training programmes to help you stay at the forefront of your professional field. There may also be the opportunity to complete a qualification such as an apprenticeship to help you upskill in your role. We also run a range of internal leadership and management programmes, to include Salford Managers, find out more below.
Progress
Throughout your career journey with us, you will have dedicated time to discuss your development and future ambitions. You will be supported to plan, shape and work towards your goals, as well as encouraged to broaden your experiences and skills to help you achieve them. We provide regular reviews, feedback and opportunities for you to develop and to help you to be the best you can be, whatever your future ambitions. Many of our colleagues progress onto different roles across the University as well promotional opportunities within their departments.
Our development principles
- Learning happens every day. Development is everywhere and not just in a classroom
- You drive your own learning. How and what you learn should be motivated by personal growth, curiosity and need
- Internal first. Look to the fantastic people around you! We're surrounded by internal expertise and experience. Actively use this to collaborate and stimulate your learning
- Learning should be a playful, organic experience. Experiment! Play! Try new things! You'll learn something in the process, even if it wasn't what you set out to. This is encouraged at all levels.
- Learning is an individual process. Whatever enables you to learn is valid, for example, reading, shadowing, conversations, group work, workshops, and new experiences.
