Causes - Students
Covid-19 has dramatically altered our students’ university experience, significantly changing the Salford they know, and the professional world they will join as graduates. At the University of Salford we are committed to supporting talented students to succeed in Higher Education. With the help of alumni and supporters, we provide bursaries and funds to help students who may otherwise be deterred from study, to reach their full potential. We need to do all we can to support our students, and we need your help.
We are acutely aware that this pandemic has affected everyone, and that many of our supporters are unable to give at present. However, if you are in the position to do so, you can support our students by making a donation to the University's new Believe scholarships and bursaries fund or to Student Hardship, and we can put your generosity to work straight away.
STUDENT HARDSHIP
We would never want a short-term financial challenge to prevent a student from completing their course, and the Student Hardship Fund can be the difference between a student pursuing their academic and professional dreams or having to put their studies on hold.
Thanks to the generosity of our alumni, supporters, and friends, the Student Hardship Fund can offer a financial lifeline to those experiencing exceptional financial difficulties through no fault of their own through non-repayable awards. The Fund is intended to help students experiencing hardship due to ongoing financial difficulties, including essential living costs, or unexpected financial emergencies.
Revive Grants
To help address the rising demand for financial and emotional support amongst students as we continue to navigate the Covid-19 pandemic, we recently launched the Revive Grants. The Grants will address areas such as mental health, wellbeing, and employability, providing our students with valuable opportunities and the skills to thrive and not just survive.
Now, more than ever, we need your support to help our students remain in education and realise their dreams.
BELIEVE
The Believe Scholarships and Bursaries fund will allow us to attract, retain and progress talented students, regardless of their financial background.
Many of our students work part time to supplement their income whilst at university, and young people are twice as likely to work in hospitality and retail which have been badly hit by the economic effects of the pandemic.
The uncertainty for the future experienced by our students throughout the pandemic was perhaps felt most keenly by our care-experienced students. The University of Salford is proud that for over 10 years we have been at the forefront of supporting our care leaver students. Being care-experienced not only has implications on the support network around these students, but it also has financial repercussions. Together, we need to make sure that care leavers have all the support they need in place to access and succeed in higher education.
At the University of Salford, we are proud to be champions for the under-represented. Our Believe scholarships and bursary programme aims to support those who need it most to realise their full potential and not let finances limit their impact on research, industry and the world. The fund provides £1,000 bursary for each year of an undergraduate course. This not only provides a safety net of support, but also a vote of confidence to the recipients that your university believes in their abilities to succeed.
